Overview
This update applies only to CDSS 801A reporting periods beginning in July 2026 and is applicable only during the semiannual Dual Language Learner reporting months.
The setup and data-entry instructions in the previous Knowledge Base article still apply. Continue following that article to configure sites, classrooms, programs, student records, family eligibility, schedules, attendance, and all other required reporting information.
Why This Update Is Needed
CDSS introduced additional reporting requirements beginning with the July 2026 report month. CareConnect has been updated to collect and report the new information while continuing to use the existing data required for the CDSS 801A report.
The updated report includes new fields related to Dual Language Learner, or DLL, reporting and additional classroom-level information.
Completing the existing setup requirements and the new steps described in this article helps:
Include the correct children, classrooms, and programs.
Populate required CDSS reporting fields.
Reduce missing or incomplete data.
Ensure the report reflects the selected reporting month.
Prepare a valid file for CDMIS submission.
Populate the new DLL reporting fields required beginning July 2026.
What Changed Beginning July 2026?
CareConnect now includes a new report option:
CDSS 801A Report (since 07/2026)
This report option supports the updated CDSS reporting requirements effective with the July 2026 report month.
The update includes:
Nine new CDSS 801A report fields.
A new DLL Reporting Month checkbox.
A new DLL Reporting Month indicator on the generated 801A report list.
Two new classroom-level CDSS 801A data-source fields.
How to Prepare for the Updated Report
Step 1: Continue Following the Previous Knowledge Base Article
Follow all setup, review, and data-entry instructions in the previous CDSS 801A Knowledge Base article linked below.
Those instructions still apply and should continue to be used for:
Site configuration.
Classroom setup.
Program setup.
Student information.
Family eligibility.
Schedules.
Attendance.
Other existing CDSS 801A reporting fields.
The steps in this article do not replace those requirements. They add the new July 2026 reporting requirements.
Step 2: Complete the New July 2026 Data Fields
Review and complete the newly added information in CareConnect, including:
Date of Family Language Instrument
Dual Language Learner (DLL) Status
Child’s Home Language(s)
Family's Written Communication Preference
Family's Verbal Communication Preference
Language(s) Proficient – Lead Teacher and/or Program Staff
Language(s) Used by Lead Teacher and/or Program Staff with Children (Other than English)
Frequency of Non-English Language Used by Lead Teacher and/or Program Staff with Children
-
Program Language Type
Completing these fields before generating the report helps prevent blank or incomplete values in the new CDSS fields.
Step 3: Determine Whether DLL Information Should Be Reported for the Selected Month
Use the DLL Reporting Month checkbox to indicate whether DLL information should be included for the selected reporting month.
When the DLL Reporting Month checkbox is selected
CareConnect pulls the applicable DLL information into the nine newly added report fields.
Select the checkbox only when the selected report month is a DLL reporting month based on CDSS requirements.
When the DLL Reporting Month checkbox is not selected
The nine new fields will still appear in the generated report, but their values will be blank.
This allows the report format to remain consistent while preventing DLL information from being reported during months when it is not required.
Step 4: Generate the Correct Report
For report months beginning July 2026:
Open the Generate 801A dialog.
Select the appropriate report month.
Select or clear the DLL Reporting Month checkbox, as applicable.
Choose CDSS 801A Report (since 07/2026).
Generate the report.
Review the generated report for missing or incomplete information before submitting it to CDMIS.
Do not use the previous 801A report option for CDSS report months beginning July 2026.
How to Confirm Which Option Was Used
After the report is generated, review the 801A report list.
The list now includes a DLL Reporting Month indicator. This helps identify whether the DLL Reporting Month checkbox was selected when the report was generated.
Use this indicator when reviewing report history or confirming how a previously generated report was created.
Important Reminder
This article covers the CDSS-only changes effective July 2026.
The previous Knowledge Base article remains valid and should continue to be followed for all existing setup and reporting requirements. The instructions in this article are additional requirements, except for the report-generation step, which has changed to the new CDSS 801A Report (since 07/2026) option.
